“Time Has Come for Nagas…”, Say Naga Mothers; Endorses Naga Solidarity Walk

Leaders of the Naga Mothers’ Association

Kohima, 23 July: The Naga Mothers’ Association has, in their press release, assertively stated to stand in solidarity with the Global Naga Forum (GNF) in response to the call of the Naga Solidarity Walk which is scheduled for 28 and 29 July. As per the GNF, the Naga Solidarity Walk is organized, under the theme ‘One People, One Destiny’, in order to demonstrate the message of Naga unity across artificial boundaries set between the Nagas – literally to walk from Kohima to Senapati, crossing the Nagaland-Manipur border.

The Naga Mothers’ Association, the apex civil body of the Naga women stated that “as Nagas, we are going through one of the most trying times with suspicious, hatreds and diverse mindset. The narrow feeling of tribalism and our mindset needs to be done away.” The women’s body also urges upon all to rise above the feeling of tribalism which they say continue to be the root cause of our division. It further summon the Naga people that time has come for Nagas to unite and stand committed to our goals as one people, because a divided house can never stand.

Therefore, the mothers added, the apex body appeals all units and concerned citizens irrespective of affiliations to join the historical peaceful walk.

It may be mentioned that, recently, as opposed to the idea of solidarity walk, the Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) and Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) had appealed all respective units not to join the Solidarity Walk.
